Safe where you live

Article 19 of the UNCRC states governments should ensure that children are cared for properly, and protected from violence abuse and neglect.

“I think people should be able to go out and not be scared of violence and abuse, because of the way you are and the way you dress. I am scared that someone will get hurt. So we need more police around our community”. This was a statement from one of the children and young people at the event

It’s a fact that in 2006, 31% of shooting victims in London were children. Click on the youtube footage and see what its like for some other young people. Is there a problem with knives in your area? What do you think needs to change to make you feel safe where you live?

11 MILLION led by the Children’s Commissioner asked victims of bullying and bullies to tell us their real life stories to help people understand why bullying happens and what can be done to prevent it. We have also been working with the Government to make sure there is a proper system for bullying complaints to be taken seriously in schools.
